Our family's journey to bring a child home through adoption

Got our Date!

We got our travel date and will be heading over to Eastern Europe in less than 2 weeks!  We also learned during this time that the little girl we had committed to is no longer available for adoption...at least not at the moment.  Our family had been thinking about this possibility for a few weeks and it didn't come as a shock when we got the official word.  I am still grieving the loss of the little girl we were going to call Mila Caroline.

We know God has called us to adoption and felt strongly we should continue the process and not give up.  This left us with a couple of options.  We could travel blind or choose another child listed on Reece's Rainbow. One thing that we have never really considered was a boy. I had been looking at all the children on RR for a couple of weeks...preparing my heart for what I felt was coming!  These 2 boys kept jumping out at me. It has been made very clear to us that we are meant to bring "Mikey" and "Olen" home to our family.  We continue to trust the plans He has for us and will move forward with hopes of bringing 2 sweet, little boys home to join our family. We covet your prayers for our family as we continue on this journey with an unexpected turn.

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows-
this is God, whose dwelling is holy.
God places the lonely in families;
he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy...

A Quick Update...

All of our paperwork is in "Maci's" country!  This took longer that I expected or wanted but it was no surprise to God.  We are now just waiting...
Our dossier needs to be translated and then submitted, hopefully next week! After it is submitted we wait for an invitation to come and meet our little girl.  We are hoping this happens at the beginning of April.

Let the FUNdraising Begin

Things have slowed down with the paper chase and I am starting a fundraiser to help bring our little girl home. We are hosting an auction on Facebook. I hope to add items throughout the coming weeks so please check often.  https://www.facebook.com/powellfamilyauction

This Crazy Ride...

We are working very hard to get all of our paperwork together and completed!  I have sent most of the notarized papers to Richmond to get apostilled.  Once they come back will forward them on Eastern Europe.  I hope to have everything in before the middle/end of January.  We are now waiting for our home study to be finished.  A few potential snags with the home study which we need prayer for:
* Virginia recently changed the law and all home studies have to be done according to Hague requirements.  This means we are waiting for reports from states where we have lived since the age of 18 (!!!)...this was not needed with Alexa.
*  We waiting for our VA police clearance to come.
*  The last thing we need is our I171h which is the "golden ticket".

I am continually reminding myself that God is control and that He knows the perfect time for us to travel to meet our girl.

Joyful Obedience

This journey has many beginnings. By His grace, God called Jim and Tisha each to new life in Christ and brought them together in marriage. From 1998 to 2011, He taught them selflessness and provided an object lesson on the infinite nature of love through the blessings of eight biological children. By making these blessings all girls, He showed them how delightfully fun life could be.
In 2012, as He called the couple to adopt a special-needs child, God taught them about the obedience of faith and the unexpected joys that accompany even modest (but genuine) sacrifices. Most recently, He has graciously taught them that following Christ in faith and in joyful obedience is a journey that doesn’t end … at least, not yet. There is always MORE … more to pray for, more to do, more to give for His glory.
As they pursue a second adoption, Jim and Tisha are thankful to their local church for its compelling call to “90 Days of Generosity,” to their nine girls for the encouragement they have given to such imperfect parents, and to their Heavenly Father for His great grace and the living hope He has given us in Christ.

We Got a Date

For those that haven't heard....we received our call last week and we got a date to meet our little Alexa Joy!  We are beyond excited and a bit nervous too.  In less than a week we will heading out half way across the world.  We have a friend coming to stay with our girls at home and our wonderful church family will be providing many meals to help take that stress off of my friend.  We have been very blessed by our church family...providing much of the donations for our garage sales, coming out to Rita's for some ice and the prayers we have felt!  We continue to covet prayers as we continue this journey.  Prayers for our safety, our families safety, and my friends sanity!
